Another grotesque and morbid danger that users, particularly children, are unaware of is the threat of potential online predators. Yes, pedophiles not only exist in the physical world, but many of these individuals will slither their way into the chat room with an unsuspecting fourteen year old. "The anonymity of social networking sites make it easy for unscrupulous people to target young teens and engage them in harmful conversations"(L123).
As such, if a predator were to obtain certain information that is pertinent to their unruly search, then that unruly person could be on the hunt for that same oblivious teen from that chat room, meanwhile, that teen would be completely unaware that they were being followed. Privacy controls help to alleviate this issue, but it is no guarantee that a user is going to be safe from danger.
